Prime Minister Kim, "Seamless preventive measures" for the outbreak of African swine fever in Naju

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Sang-hyun = Prime Minister Kim Myeong-seok issued an urgent directive on the 9th for the seamless implementation of quarantine measures related to the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) at a pig farm in Naju, Jeollanam-do. According to the Prime Minister's Office, after receiving a report on the ASF outbreak, Prime Minister Kim instructed the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to "seamlessly proceed with quarantine measures in accordance with the emergency action guidelines (SOP), including access control to the affected farms, culling, suspension of temporary movement, and intensive disinfection." He also ordered, "Thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the outbreak through epidemiological investigation." Furthermore, he emphasized, "The Ministry of Environment should ensure that the fences around the affected farm are thoroughly checked and that activities to search for and capture dead wild boars are carried out flawlessly." He stressed, "Relevant ministries and local governments, as well as related organizations, should actively cooperate in the implementation of quarantine measures such as rapid culling, intensive inspection, and focused disinfection." He also urged pig farmers to strictly comply with administrative orders, such as prohibiting gatherings and events among pig farm workers and prohibiting the entry of items that may cause contamination, and to strictly adhere to basic quarantine rules. Prime Minister Kim added, "As the Lunar New Year holiday approaches, there is an expected increase in the movement of people and vehicles visiting their hometowns, so please thoroughly implement quarantine measures such as disinfection of farms and high-risk areas, and control the entry and exit of people and vehicles."
