Antioquian banana growers are seeking a 14% price increase for their exports from Urabá, currently priced at $8.5 per box, in negotiations with the European Union's large supermarkets led by the Colombian Banana Association (Augura). This is aiming to sustain the 50,000 jobs generated by the industry. Despite facing climatic challenges due to the El Niño Phenomenon, banana exports from Urabá have seen a 20% growth between January and July of this year, with over 38.7 million 20-kilogram units shipped, generating over $347 million in revenue.
