Family farming in Tumbes is advancing towards a more competitive commercial model. The Association of District Lemon Producers of San Jacinto – Tumbes, made up of 40 small farmers managing 50 hectares of Sutil lemon, has started a continuous supply scheme to the Wholesale Market of Santa Anita, in Lima, with projected shipments of up to 8 tons per week. The operation responds to a growing demand for quality Sutil lemon in Lima and is part of a commercial articulation process promoted by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), through Agromercado. The first shipments of 4 and 8 tons met the standards required by the wholesalers: extra and first caliber, uniform green color, and fruits free of scars or mechanical damage. The organization has an annual supply of 2,500 tons, with an average productivity of 50 tons per hectare.
