Production of citrus fruits grows by 17.2% in Minas Gerais

The citrus production chain continues to expand in Minas Gerais, even in the face of a challenging scenario for the sector worldwide. Data from the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply indicate that between January and August 2025, total production reached 1.48 million tons, a growth of 17.2% compared to the same period in 2024. The average state productivity was 24.37 tons per hectare, in an area of 85,198.45 hectares cultivated. Orange remains the main crop in the state's citrus cultivation. According to the survey, it accounts for 90.3% of production, totaling 1.13 million tons in the period, with a 21% increase compared to the previous year. Sanitary control of the crops has been one of the areas of action of the Minas Gerais Institute of Livestock and Agriculture, which has been monitoring the orchards since the first records of the disease in the State, about two decades ago.
