In the year 2020, Peru's Agricultural Production Value reached 23,463 million Soles, with fruits and vegetables contributing significantly to 38% of this total value. The fruits sector generated 26% of this value, amounting to 6,042 million Soles, while the vegetable sector accounted for 12% or 2,793 million Soles. Both the Amazonian and Andean regions of Peru are rich in the biodiversity of fruits and vegetables, with over 160 and 100 species commercially available in the Amazonian and Andean regions, respectively. The United Nations, recognizing their importance in a healthy diet, designates the year 2021 as the 'International Year of Fruits and Vegetables', advocating for the daily consumption of 400 grams to prevent chronic diseases and address micronutrient deficiencies.
