Sea eggplants, also known as seagrass and sea aubergine, are naturally grown in the clean sea waters of Turkey and have an important place in Chinese cuisine. The product, which has an annual hunting quota of 2 thousand tons, is dried and exported to China and Korea, providing an income of around 30 million dollars to the country's economy. Dokuz Eylul University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Doğan Yaşar emphasized the importance of sea eggplants, stating that they clean the sea and have economic value. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry takes serious measures against illegal or excessive hunting to maintain the marine ecosystem.
