A research project aimed at enhancing the production and quality of cassava in Piauí, Brazil, has been launched with collaboration from Embrapa Meio-Norte, Senai, ABIP, Sebrae, and Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura. The initiative seeks to establish quality standards and good practices in cassava production and handling, focusing on the greater Teresina region, which has a significant demand for cassava starch for the bakery industry. The project will also explore technologies to improve cassava production and quality, utilizing organic fertilization techniques. Cassava is a crucial food source for around 700 million people globally and was produced in Piauí despite the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, according to IBGE.
