Portugal has developed a Contingency Plan to prevent the introduction of the highly destructive pest, Aromia bungii, which poses a significant threat to fruit species in the prunoid genus including plum, cherry, apricot, sour cherry, and peach. This plan outlines the steps to prevent the pest's entry and details the necessary measures for its eradication in case of an outbreak. Originally from Asia, the pest has already been detected in the European Union, specifically in the UK, Germany, and Italy, and can affect not only stone fruits but also pomegranate, persimmon, olive, and poplar.
