Heavy rainfall during the growing season is expected to result in a better pumpkin harvest this year than last year in Bavaria, Germany, the country's largest pumpkin-growing region. The larger fruit size and weight are balanced by increased disease due to the damp conditions, leading to some premature death of plant foliage. The harvest, primarily of Hokkaido and butternut pumpkins, with other varieties like spaghetti squash and muscat squash, is already starting and is expected to increase from the previous year, covering 1248 hectares across 367 farms, with Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia also significant growing areas.
