Peru: Construction of two breeding alpaca production centers begins

The Regional Government of Puno, through the Special South American Camelids Project (Pecsa), has begun the construction of two Alpaca Reproductive Production Centers (CPR) in the provinces of Azángaro and San Antonio de Putina. One of the CPR is located in the peasant community of Toma, in the province of Azángaro, and the other in the peasant community of Cambria, in the province of San Antonio de Putina. The president of the regional council, Wido Condori Castillo, pointed out that “these CPRs will improve the quality of life of the alpaca sector” and urged the residents of each project to comply with the established deadlines, respecting the proper use of state resources. For his part, the executive director of Pecsa stated that the camelid genetic improvement project will benefit alpaca farmers in 12 provinces of Puno.
