In Guizhou, a province in China, a unique fruit known as the thorn pear has been transformed into a profitable enterprise through a collaboration between the Guangdong Provincial First Poverty Alleviation Collaboration Working Group and Guangyao Group. This pear, which is rich in nutrients but has a prickly surface and bitter taste, was previously not valued and was only consumed locally as wine. Due to its lack of appeal and low standardization, the industry remained underdeveloped. However, a new beverage called "Slim Lemon," along with other products like throat lozenges and tortoise cream, has been successfully trial-produced from the pear, generating over 100 million yuan in sales. This initiative has not only improved the local economy but also aided in poverty alleviation, with many residents, including Wang Mingying, escaping poverty and enjoying improved living standards. The Guizhou government's efforts in brand building the thorn pear industry and the collaboration with Guangyao Group have played a significant role in this transformation, providing a model for poverty alleviation through agricultural innovation.
