Tra Vinh province in Vietnam saw thousands of farming households experiencing substantial income growth, averaging 150 million VND/ha/year, at the end of the 2024 brackish water aquaculture season. This success was largely due to a unique afforestation and aquaculture model, which not only improved financial stability for farmers but also strengthened the province's forest cover and mangrove ecosystems. In an effort to further support this initiative, Tra Vinh province has implemented a policy that offers financial assistance for forest planting. Farmers and organizations that plant mangroves on legally owned lands of 0.3 hectares or more are eligible for half the cost of seedling purchase, capped at 37 million VND/ha, aiming to bolster sustainable livelihoods, protect the ecological environment, and mitigate natural disaster risks.
