Prices for berries in Ukraine this year are frighteningly high. Given that it is now the peak season for raspberries and blackberries, they will only become more expensive.
Analyst of the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club Maxim Hopka, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, explained that berries are expensive this year due to low yields as a result of frost.
"In addition, raspberries and blackberries are harvested by hand, which increases collection costs," explained the expert.
Moreover, the cost of electricity, fuel, and fertilizers is rising, which also drives up the cost of production. Also, prices on the domestic market are influenced by the demand for frozen berries for export, which intensifies competition.
At Silpo, prices for raspberries start at 359.10 UAH/kg, and for blackberries at 214 UAH per kilogram.
Meanwhile, there is no fresh raspberries for sale at ATB, but blackberries can be bought for 189.95 UAH/kg, but this is a discounted price.
At the same time, in the Varus network, raspberries are sold at 369.90 UAH/kg, and blackberries at 199.90 UAH/kg with a discount.
