Recent reports have highlighted a significant drop in cereal and rapeseed prices, with wheat now averaging at PLN 1,200/t and rape at PLN 2,350, due to reductions in the CBOT and MATIF exchanges. This decrease is further attributed to record-breaking imports of these commodities from Ukraine, reaching over 1.25 million tons of corn, 750,000 tons of rapeseed, and 650 thousand tons of wheat since July. The surge in imports has led to increased domestic stocks, causing concern among Polish farmers who are protesting against the impact on their market. However, claims for the reintroduction of tariffs on these imports by trade unions and agricultural chambers are misinformed, as the EU currently does not impose duties or quotas on rapeseed, and maize imports enjoy zero duties.
