In the fifth month of the Iranian calendar year, Iran's red meat production rose by three percent from the previous month, reaching 32,949 tons, with beef and veal being the most produced. However, the supply was 20 percent lower than the same month last year. Iran, a major red meat consumer in West Asia, particularly favors lamb, though per capita consumption is lower than in the U.S. and Australia due to religious restrictions on pork. A significant portion of Iran's red meat is imported from Brazil, adhering to religious culling practices.
