Korea is witnessing a surge in the cultivation of subtropical crops due to rising demand for exotic agricultural products and the effects of climate change. Each local government is focusing on identifying foreign agricultural products that can be cultivated locally and developing the necessary techniques. Some of the popular subtropical crops include okra, artichoke, hazelnut, and yambin. The Rural Development Administration is also conducting a survey on the status of the cultivation of 22 major subtropical crops in Korea. The cultivation area for these crops is expanding beyond Jeju Island and southern regions, with bananas now being cultivated in nine provinces.
