The Ministry of Industry in Thailand has made revisions to the classification of hazardous substances, specifically affecting 13 plant parts including neem, galangal, ginger, and turmeric, previously classified as Hazardous Substance Type 2. This change, aimed at encouraging the use of natural pest control agents, has been made to simplify the process for farmers and traders, eliminating the need for complex registrations and notifications. Initially, these substances were classified as Type 2 to prevent unregulated use, but their downgrading to Type 1 aims to facilitate easier buying, selling, and production. The Department of Agriculture has been encouraged to expedite the process of including these plants in the Hazardous Substances 1 category, highlighting the importance of natural pest control and reducing reliance on harmful chemicals.
