A seminar by the University of Chile's Water Studies Group and Corfo, attended by over 50 producers and experts, emphasized the importance of switching to new table grape varieties to remain competitive internationally. The seminar highlighted the need for technical knowledge, financial and marketing considerations, with over 40% variety replacement in the Copiapó valley. It also noted the challenge of water restriction and the potential of incorporating new species like citrus, mangoes, or fig trees for small producers. A detailed analysis of the productive potential of 50 small farmers in the Huasco Valley was funded by the Innovation Fund for Competitiveness.
