Spring potato prices are weakening, leading to a predicted 7% increase in highland potato production. Despite efforts to sell domestically produced potatoes, large franchise restaurants are ignoring them, causing criticism. The Korea Rural Economic Institute predicts highland potato production will reach around 136,000 tons in July, a 7% increase from the previous year. However, domestic restaurant franchises argue that domestically produced potatoes are not suitable for making French fries due to their high moisture content and continue to use foreign products. This has led to the discontinuation of the French fries menu due to local supply instability.
