Since the detection of highly pathagenic avian influenza in Japan in November 2023, exports of poultry products have been halted or restricted, with the situation leading to the suspension and resumption of exports from different prefectures. Despite the outbreak, Japan has been able to secure approval from key export destinations including Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, Vietnam, and Macau to continue exporting poultry products from unaffected areas. Following discussions with Hong Kong, poultry exports from Hiroshima Prefecture, initially suspended due to the outbreak, have been given the green light to resume. This allows for the issuance of export quarantine certificates and the resumption of poultry product exports to Hong Kong, the United States, Vietnam, and Macau. Notably, poultry products produced and processed after a specified period are eligible for export, highlighting a successful strategy in managing the impact of the outbreak on poultry exports.
