The traditional seaweed farming industry in Gochang, Jeollabuk-do, which has a 400-year history, is set to resume after more than a year. The industry, which had been suspended due to the nullification of compensation for Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant's thermal discharge, is restarting with the issuance of "limited licenses for traditional seaweed farming." This is expected to restore the livelihoods of local fishermen. Recently, Gochang County completed the issuance of limited licenses for traditional seaweed farming to 43 fishing households, involving over 150 people from the Manwol Fishermen's Association, as announced on the 10th. Notably, the area of the fishing grounds in the Mandwol region has expanded from 154 hectares to 200 hectares, an increase of 46 hectares. The traditional seaweed farming in Gochang, which began in 1623, is a longstanding fishing industry in the Mandwol area.
