A partnership between GIRSAL, USAID Ghana Trade and Investment Activity, VegPro Kenya, and other organizations has initiated a pilot project to grow and export chili peppers using net house technology in Ghana. The project aims to meet the EU's phytosanitary requirements and boost farmer incomes and foreign exchange revenues. The country has the potential to export USD 380 million worth of fresh chili over five years, following a decline in exports due to a 2015 ban. The project will establish production protocols, measure output, and revenue per hectare, and the findings will be used to secure private sector investment in net houses for vegetable production. The use of shade net technology and integrated pest management practices is expected to improve chili quality and quantity, supporting Ghana's agricultural development and economic growth.
