In June 2020, Brazil's rice exports reached a record high of 316,175 tonnes, a significant increase of 1,108% compared to the same period last year, as per data from the Secretariat of Commerce Exterior (Secex) and consultancy Cogo. This figure marks the highest monthly rice export volume ever for Brazil, surpassing December 2018. The exports consisted of paddy rice (30.2%), processed products (42%), and broken rice (27.8%). Notable recipients of these exports included Montenegro, Venezuela, and Costa Rica. The surge in exports is attributed to both the high exchange rate and an increase in international prices.
