Brazil is set to receive its first shipment of rice from Thailand in 30 to 40 days, as part of the government's strategy to combat rising domestic prices caused by speculation and crop failures in Rio Grande do Sul. The rice will be tax-free and will be packaged with a maximum price of R$20 for a 5-kilo package. The government is also planning to decentralize the production of essential foods to prevent supply disruptions due to climate change or other factors. A new Harvest Plan, set to launch by the end of June, will encourage the production of key crops in all regions of the country.
