Brazil: Rising rice prices drive consumption of noodles and pasta

According to research data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the Broad National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), revealed that, in the last month alone, the price of rice registered a significant increase of 3 .41%. The situation follows the trend on the world stage: the product reached, last August, the highest price in 15 years, with an increase of 9.8% in one month, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Agriculture (FAO). India, a crucial producer, responsible for 40% of the global rice supply, is identified as the main villain in this situation, after adopting restrictions on exports in July.
