Romania Regains Position as Largest Sunflower Seed Producer in the EU

According to the European Commission's (EC) forecast, cited by Oleoscope, sunflower seed production in the EU-27 during the 2025/26 marketing year will increase by 17 percent compared to last year – to 9.7 million tons. According to the German Association of Grain and Oilseed Processors (UFOP), the total increase in sunflower seed supply in the EU-27 is entirely due to the expected increase in the average yield of the oilseed crop by 21% (to around 2.1 t/ha, as the cultivated area in the EU has decreased by 4% to 4.6 million hectares).
