In 2024, Russia exported just over 1,000 tons of red caviar, which was less than 10% of its total production, according to Alexander Panin, Chairman of the Fish Union. The country usually exports between 10% and 30% of its red caviar production each year, with the exact figure depending on the fish catch volume. Ilya Shestakov, the head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, had previously stated that Russia's caviar production for 2024 would be sufficient for the domestic market, and that the production of red caviar would decrease to around 11-13 thousand tons by the end of the year, down from 2023.
