Russia has reduced fish imports from Chile by a third in 9 months

INTERFAX.RU - Russia imported 34 thousand tons of fish from Chile in the first nine months of 2024, which is one third less than in the same period of 2023, the analytical center of the Fish Union reports. In value terms, the decline was even deeper - by 35%, to $ 157 million. The supplies of all the main types of fish decreased, but the largest reduction was shown by the import of frozen salmon - by 2.5 times in kind and monetary terms, to 11.5 thousand tons for $ 77 million. The drop in shipments is due to the increase in the price of Chilean salmon to $ 9 per kg and an increase in imported trout from Turkey and Iran at an average price of $ 5.5 per kg. The rise in price of Chilean salmon may be due to a decrease in its production over the first nine months of 2024 by 10%, to 519 thousand tons.
