Russia has imposed a temporary ban on the export of cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose to maintain stability in its domestic food market. The ban, in effect until August 31, 2024, has some exceptions, including supplies to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. These exceptions include 28,000 tons to Armenia, 5,000 tons to Belarus, 120,000 tons to Kazakhstan, and 28,500 tons to Kyrgyzstan. Despite the ban, Russian sugar, known for being one of the cheapest in the world, continues to find demand in the global market, with new exports reported to Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, North Korea, and Senegal.
