Russia remains the only major supplier of Pacific herring to South Korea

In 2020, Russia contributed 99% of the total imported frozen Pacific herring, amounting to 11,355 tonnes or 2% of the overall seafood import volume of 583,751 tonnes. The remaining 1% was sourced from Myanmar (57 tonnes) and Norway (6 tonnes). Despite the volume being lower than the previous year, the import value fell significantly more, by 26%, to US$10.13 million due to a higher average import price of US$0.89/kg, a 17% increase from the previous year's US$0.75/kg.
