Russia will allocate special land for rice growing

The issue of creating a separate register of land for growing rice was discussed at a meeting held in mid-May at the Ministry of Agriculture, a source familiar with the agenda of the event told RBC, and was confirmed by the head of the National Rice Union, Igor Lobach. The Federal Rice Research Center is also aware of plans to create a register. The creation of a register of lands on which only rice can be grown is part of an action plan to increase the production of this crop to 2 million tons, another source in the rice growing industry explained to RBC. The plan is twice as high as current production figures: according to Rosstat, the gross rice harvest in Russia in 2023 amounted to 1.1 million tons.
