A conference at the Eastern Economic Forum in Russia discussed the potential of the domestic fisheries sector and issues related to national food security. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization predicts a 12% increase in global pollack catches by 2024, reaching 3.7 million tons. Russian fishermen are expected to harvest 2 million tons of pollack this year, following a 1.9 million ton harvest last year. The forum, held at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, attracts over 6,000 attendees from 76 countries and regions.
