Since early 2024, fruit prices in Russia have surged dramatically, with some fruits seeing increases of over 50%. Common fruits like apples, bananas, and oranges have experienced price hikes between 30% and 100%, driven by factors such as natural disasters, exchange rate fluctuations, and export restrictions. For example, apple prices rose by 30% to 159.8 rubles/kg due to drought and frost, while banana prices more than doubled from 62.99 rubles/kg in 2019 to 134.99 rubles/kg in 2024. By June 2024, raspberry prices hit 783 rubles/kg, cherries 486 rubles/kg, and strawberries 551 rubles/kg. This increase in domestic fruit prices has led to a rise in imports, with Russia importing 42,000 tons of apples in June, a 10% increase from May and 1.8 times more than the same period last year.
