The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the supply of fish products to China and South Korea, leading Russian fish producers to seek new markets. The Alaska Pollock Harvesters Association is advocating for the expedited opening of Indonesia for Russian fish exports, as the country imported $300 million worth of fish products in 2019. However, the lack of an intergovernmental agreement and issues with veterinary certificates are preventing Russian exports to Indonesia. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is considering the issue and plans to send a reminder to Indonesia, while the Russian Fisheries Company views Indonesia as an attractive market. The Rosrybolovstvo agency is urging the fish industry to diversify export supplies to mitigate risks.
