Rwanda is experiencing a surge in chili pepper production, driven by both domestic and international demand. The country's favorable climate and stable conditions are advantageous for chili cultivation, especially for disease-resistant varieties like Bird's Eye. With increasing farmer experience and yield, the country is becoming a significant player in the fresh produce export market, finding demand in Europe. Rwanda's ability to produce chili all year round, due to the lack of winter, provides a competitive edge. Domestic demand is high, with a shift in preference towards higher quality peppers, and prices have also seen an increase this year.
