The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) in Mexico announced a total catch quota of up to 4,880 tons for the corvina golfina (Cynoscion othonopterus), an endemic species of the Upper Gulf of California and the Colorado River Delta, for 2022. This decision aims to regulate the capture of the species to ensure its sustainability and provide economic benefits to local fishermen. The regulation is based on the technical opinion of the National Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Inapesca) and will be enforced by Sader and the Secretary of the Navy. The capture of corvina golfina is important for the local economy and is permitted only from September 1 to April 30 each year, with certain exemptions for the Cucapá ethnic group.
