Consumer interest in canned fish has decreased following last year's increased purchases due to the coronavirus pandemic. Sales have significantly dropped in the first half of this year, according to René Stahlhofen, president of the German Fish Information Center. The decline is likely due to the long-lasting canned fish purchased in large quantities last year, which may still be in households. Canned fish, including tuna, canned herring, and pickled herring, make up 31% of the market share in their segment.
