President Joko Widodo of Indonesia is encouraging the development of downstream processing industries from fish, such as fish meal, to generate higher added value. He believes that this could be beneficial for fishermen, Cooperative MSMEs, and small industries, as fish meal is of interest to many countries. The President has also asked local governments to support downstream programs in various sectors, including agriculture and plantations. He expressed concern that despite being the world's number one exporter of tuna, skipjack, and cob, Indonesia is the world's number one importer of fish meal.
