The European Commission has forecasted a 1.5% increase in the EU's cereal production in 2022, totaling around 298 million tonnes, with higher sown areas for winter wheat, barley, rye, and maize, and a decline in triticale acreage. The total EU supply of cereals and oilseeds is projected to increase, despite an anticipated decrease in imports and meat production, due to higher production of oilseeds, particularly sunflower oil. The loosening of restrictions on set-aside land and nitrogen-fixing plants, along with record-breaking seed purchase prices, are expected to contribute to the increase in oilseed crops.
