Italy has outlawed the production and sale of synthetic meat, imposing fines between 10 thousand to 150 thousand euros, contrasting with countries like Israel, the USA, and Singapore where lab-grown meat is legal. Despite the global meat substitute market projected to reach $11 billion by 2041, and synthetic meat production being more environmentally friendly, concerns over potential health impacts persist. Meanwhile, the production of cell-based meat faces challenges in developing a safe, edible, and biodegradable scaffold that mimics blood vessels for nutrient transport. Although Singapore set a standard for safe cell-based meat production in 2020, the specifics remain undisclosed and mass production is yet to commence.
