Scotland's salmon industry is experiencing a record-breaking year with substantial growth in both domestic and international markets. Salmon exports, the country's largest food export, reached £191 million from July to September 2024, an 11% increase from the previous year. Total export sales for the first nine months of 2024 rose by 30% to £622 million, with key markets in France and Asia, including China, Taiwan, and Singapore. Despite facing environmental challenges in 2023, the industry has invested nearly £1 billion since 2018 to improve survival rates and meet global demand. The domestic market is valued at £1.2 billion annually, contributing £766 million in GVA to the economy. While environmental concerns are being reviewed, industry leaders are optimistic about maintaining positive trends.
