[Agricultural, Fisheries, and Livestock Newspaper=Reporter Moon Ye-yi] The red spider mite, which was primarily a problem during the summer months of July and August, is now emerging as a pest that requires year-round control. Gyeong-Nong has introduced control methods for the red spider mite along with recommended products to watch out for. According to Statistics Korea, the area of protected crops cultivation increased sharply from 80,000 hectares in 2019 to over 84,000 hectares last year. As a result, mite survival is now possible even during the low-temperature winter months, making mite control even more crucial. When red spider mites occur, white spots appear on the surface of the crop leaves, which gradually turn yellow or brown, leading to leaf fall. The fruit suffers from growth delays and poor coloration, reducing its marketability.
