Canada: Sector wants to tackle challenges head-on

The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) and Canadian Meat Council (CMC) recently met in Ottawa with parliamentarians, government officials and industry partners to discuss key priorities for the Canadian pork sector. The CPC and CMC emphasized the importance of a recovery program to quickly restore market access and stabilize the sector in the event of an African Swine Fever outbreak. With improved trade opportunities, the Canadian pork sector aims to provide Canadian pork producers with more opportunities in international markets. The councils highlighted the need for a reliable, year-round agricultural workforce and urged the government to prioritize solutions to labor shortages in the pork sector.
