Russia: Seed imports from unfriendly countries are declining

According to the RUSEED analytical center, in 2022, 16,778.1 tons of seeds were imported to Russia from states included in the list of unfriendly seeds, and in 2023 – 7,061.5 tons. In general, the volume of imports of sunflower seeds from all countries during the year decreased by 38% - from 24,221.4 tons to 15,101.3 tons. The indicator for corn also changed downwards - the volume of imported seeds fell by 45% over the year. In 2022, the share of sunflower seed supplies from unfriendly countries accounted for about 69%; for corn, the situation was more complicated - the figure reached 89%. However, already in 2023, for both crops, the share of unfriendly states in imports decreased - to 47% and 87%, respectively. The USA and Austria left the Russian market, and EU countries, including large suppliers Hungary and France, significantly reduced supplies.
