Pork production in the EU and UK is projected to decrease by 3-4% in 2023, following a 5.1% decline in the first ten months of 2022. This is due to reduced production in major pork-producing countries such as Germany, Poland, and Denmark. Despite this, the UK saw a 2% increase in production, but this is expected to decline in 2023 due to a 15% reduction in the sow herd. This decrease in production has led to a drop in the EU's self-sufficiency rate from 125% to 120%.
