The Gangnam Nonghyup in Seoul (Chairman Lee Jong-ho, pictured on the right) is promoting ICT (information and communication technology) based smart agriculture technology and establishing a new urban agriculture income model through the operation of urban-type smart farms. The Smart Agriculture Support Center of Gangnam Nonghyup cultivates urban high-value crops such as cherry tomatoes and western cabbage based on a hydroponic cultivation system that automatically controls temperature, humidity, and nutrient solution supply using smartphones and sensors. Furthermore, various institutions, companies, and organizations visit the center as part of training programs to tour the cultivation sites and learn about smart agriculture technology, thereby providing educational opportunities for direct experience of urban agriculture.
