The National Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor) organized the Forum “Commercial forest plantations and agroforestry systems: deforestation-free production”, where innovative mechanisms were proposed to boost the sustainable development and economic competitiveness of producers in the Peruvian Amazon. Family farmers, who develop agroforestry systems, contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through comprehensive management practices that strengthen the socio-environmental resilience of the regions. “From Serfor we promote large-scale forest plantations in Peru as a new engine of economic and environmental development in the country, to contribute to the increase of non-traditional exports, reduce poverty, and mitigate climate change,” stated Iliana Pérez Meléndez, Director of Knowledge Management at Serfor.
