In Iberia, Tahuamanu province, Madre de Dios region, teak cultivation (Tectona grandis) is marking a milestone in the transition towards a sustainable development model in the Peruvian Amazon, with the support of the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (Serfor). This high commercial value forest species is cultivated with technical criteria that promote legality, conservation, and the well-being of local communities. Teak, originally from Southeast Asia, has demonstrated great adaptability to the tropical conditions of Madre de Dios. Thanks to the technical and regulatory support actions promoted by Serfor, its production in sustainable plantations has gained strength as a legal, profitable economic alternative that is respectful of Amazonian ecosystems.
