The Irish sheep trade has seen a increase in price offerings for lambs due to a decrease in supplies, with the total number of lambs slaughtered being 60% lower than last year. Cull ewe numbers are also down 13% from last year. The highest price being paid for lambs and cull ewes is €7.50/kg and €4.10/kg respectively. The current lamb prices are almost €1.00/kg above last year's prices. Bord Bia predicts a decline in sheep meat availability in the EU's key sheep producing regions by the end of 2024 due to breeding ewe number contractions and disease issues like blue tongue.
