Hadong-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea has commenced the harvest of its wild green tea, a World Important Agricultural Heritage, in the Hwagae-myeon region. The harvest, which runs from April to June, is expected to generate around KRW 18 billion in income for the 921 farms that produce about 1,000 tons of the tea annually. Since its addition to the heritage list in 2017, it has seen increased global attention and export growth, reaching US$3 million in exports last year to nine countries, with a target of US$5 million this year. The tea is known for its health benefits and is grown in areas near Mt. Jirisan and the Seomjin River due to the favorable fog and humidity.
